This week our topic learning was to make a map of the route we took on our walk of Penshaw village. We looked again at the landmarks along the route we took and created miniature models. Finally we created a map of the route and plotted the landmarks onto the map. Some of us challenged ourselves and created a hill for Penshaw Monument, while others decided to paint the open areas around the village. I think you'll agree that we are amazing map makers!! In our English learning we have begun to look at the features of a recount and will begin our writing about our walk to Penshaw Monument when we come back to school after the holidays.

This week we have completed our own version of the story Goldilocks and the 3 Bears. We wrote our own ending to the story, which included Goldilocks being eaten by the bears, as well as various other traditional tales characters appearing and causing lots of havoc!! Our children's story writing is amazing! Next week we will begin a recount of our visit to Penshaw Monument. In our topic learning we looked at the history of Penshaw Monument and the children were especially interested in the fact about the boy who fell from the top to his death. Our children do seem to like gruesome tales! The children thoroughly enjoyed their visit to the Monument and sketched the landmark during their visit. Some of the children have made a fabulous 3D model of Penshaw Monument. On our walk of the local area we found lots of Penshaw landmarks. We saw a church, a pub, some shops, a care home and a park. We also saw lots of different types of houses, including a bungalow, a semi-detached house, a detached house, cottages and a row of terraced houses. |
