This week we were given pedometers to help us to monitor how many steps we walk in 1 day. We walked to Herrington Country Park to test them out. We were amazing and all of us walked/ran way over the 10,000 steps. We rounded off our afternoon in the playpark...…...what an active bunch we are!!

This week in our topic learning we looked at the importance of exercise and how it helps us to stay fit and healthy. We chose an exercise we like and gathered any resources we needed. Some of us chose to dance, while others exercised with a hula hoop. Some of us did star jumps, while others did windmills and a work out video. We then practised our exercise for 1 minute and described what changes happened to our bodies. In our English learning we used role play to help us to sequence our story - Princess Wiggly. We loved it when Princess Wiggly defeated the Couch Potato. Why not ask us to tell you the story. Welcome back to an exciting new term of learning. This term we will be learning about healthy living, including exercise, healthy eating and hygiene. We began our week by discussing what we already know about the topic, then what we would like to find out. We have worked hard at changing our display and role play to a healthy grocery store.
Could we also take this chance to thank parents/carers for completing the home news planner, it helped the children to remember what they've been up to. We began our busy week by baking crispy cakes and 'Singing Hinnies' for our Christmas coffee afternoon. Our parents came into school to watch us perform 'Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer' and 'We Wish you a Merry Christmas', using Makaton signing, then we made Christmas crafts. Some of us had breakfast with Santa and we told him what we would like him to bring us. We completed our letters to Santa, just incase he forgot what we asked for and asked him to help those who are less fortunate than ourselves. We finished our week with our Christmas party......we had so much fun! Merry Christmas!!! This week we began writing our letters to Santa. We looked at what a good letter would look like and decided we would like to ask Santa some questions. 'Santa' came to visit us in class and kindly answered our questions.....do you recognise him? We all had a fabulous Christmas lunch this week.....thanks Mrs Harland!
Here are just a few photographs of some of us working our socks off during English and maths lessons. We have completed our instructions - How to make coconut mice, and are now about to begin our letters to Santa. During R.E. learning we looked at how gifts can be invisible as well as what gifts we would give baby Jesus if we could visit him.
In our topic learning we have eased the Christmas word gently into our learning. This week the children began an RE topic - Why do Christians give gifts at Christmas? They shared their experiences of giving and receiving presents, then went on to look at why Christians give gifts at Christmas. We read the Nativity story, then the children sequenced the events.
We made coconut mice to follow on from reading the story Town Mouse and Country Mouse. Miss Williamson was so impressed with our products that she asked us to write some instructions so she can make them with her two nieces. We are now in the process of writing instructions for the girls in our English learning. In our topic learning we looked at the features of an address and found them on our own addresses. We wrote letters to a friend in the class and plan to post the letter, so watch the post! We also looked at a map of the Sunderland area and found out where we all live.
On Halloween, we all came into school looking amazing in our costumes and ready to have a fun science day. First, we read the story Room on the Broom and listened for rhyming words. The witch let us know that she was worried about a hole in her cloak and as it was forecast for rain on Halloween evening, she thought she would need a new one. She asked us to test different material to find out which were waterproof and would therefore make a waterproof cloak to keep her dry. It was exciting to test the materials and find out the results. We continued our science day with some fun. We added ingredients to our bowl, stirred and watched as 'slime' emerged......most of us had so much fun!! |
